St. Oliver Plunkett’s Pupils Pick Up A Pumpkin at Gilfresh Produce

Gilfresh Produce, leading vegetable growers and suppliers based in Loughgall were delighted to welcome pupils from St. Oliver Plunkett’s Primary School, Ballyhegan to their farm recently to see their pumpkin patch and explore their maize maze, both of which they planted this year for the first time.

The pupils took part in a spooky letter hunt around the maze before arriving at the pumpkin patch where the pumpkins had been grown. They were then able to learn more about the planting, growing and harvesting methods used.

Each child picked up a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to take away with them. St. Oliver Plunkett’s Primary School is running a pumpkin carving competition for the pupils with the pumpkins on the approach to Halloween.

Speaking about the visit, Anne Mac Oscar, Sales & Marketing Executive at Gilfresh Produce said, “Gilfresh Produce were delighted to link up with St. Oliver Plunkett’s Primary School to give the children an insight into the process involved in growing, harvesting and packing the pumpkins. It was a pleasure to have them come to the field to see for themselves where the pumpkins come from and learn more about the work that goes into getting them to the supermarket shelves. Here at Gilfresh Produce we have grown around 400,000 pumpkins this year which we supply to local retailers and pumpkin patches.”

Gilfresh Produce, which was first established by Thomas Gilpin in 1965, is a family run business which has firmly established itself as one of the country’s leading vegetable providers, dedicated to the growing and sourcing of the highest quality produce to retail and food manufacturing customers throughout the island of Ireland.
