Rural Health Partnership Visit
BY Anne Mac Oscar
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our community, we were delighted to welcome ‘The Hardy Bucks and Lassies’, a group of Young Farmers from the Rural Health Partnership to Gilfresh Produce on Tuesday 8th July.
The Rural Health Partnership focuses on health and well-being, particularly within the rural farming community and the ‘Hardy Bucks and Lassies’ participate in various activities across the year, including farm visits and educational talks. We were delighted to host them for their July outing.
The visit began with a business overview from Richard Gilpin, Head of Farm Operations here at Gilfresh. Richard provided an insight into the company’s journey and our background in growing and supplying fresh, quality vegetables using sustainable practices.
Following this, the group were taken on a guided tour of our production facilities, where they observed the washing, processing, and packing of a wide variety of vegetables. They also visited our Anaerobic Digester Plant and the farm where they were delighted to see some of the tractors and machinery that we use.
The Gilfresh team were delighted to show the young farmers more about how their food gets from our farm to their fork and to provide a valuable insight into the wide range of careers that exist within the agri-food industry. Hopefully we will see some of them back working in the sector in the years to come!
