Our Story
Gilfresh Produce is a family run company which is based in Loughgall, Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland. It was first established by the Gilpin Family in 1965 and has continued to grow and expand since then and has now firmly established itself as one of the country's leading vegetable providers, dedicated to the growing, sourcing, processing and packing of the highest quality whole head and prepared vegetables for retail and food manufacturing customers throughout the island of Ireland.

1965 In the Beginning Gilfresh Produce started off from small beginnings, which saw founder Thomas Gilpin start his career growing vegetables in a 4 acre field at his family home growing cabbages and scallions for the Belfast Market and supplying a small customer base.

1980’s Thomas’s first taste of supplying retailers came in the late 1980’s when Gilfresh Produce started to supply supermarkets, delivering to their distribution centres throughout Northern Ireland. Since then Gilfresh Produce have continued to grow and expand their customer base, meeting demand for fresh, quality, locally grown vegetables.

Thomas’ wealth of experience and innovative ideas enabled him to grow the business from a small operation to a significant local employer. He began working on new methods of storing coleslaw cabbage over the winter for local food processors. With this development Thomas began to create the current packing and storage facilities.

1999 Thomas’s son, William Gilpin officially joined the business in 1999 and is the current day Managing Director, leading a team of around 130 staff working to deliver the highest quality, fresh produce to valued customers throughout the island of Ireland.

2001 A new packhouse was constructed and operations started in it. The packhouse conforms to the highest standards within the industry having BRC Global Food Standard Accreditation.

2003/2004 Introduction of new wash facilities to wash, peel and polish carrots. 

2010 Development of online Argronomy system to trace crops from sowing to pack house.

2013 Thomas Gilpin was awarded an MBE for service to agriculture.

2014 Further development on the Gilfresh site saw the addition of a high care and vegetable preparation facility. This allowed Gilfresh Produce to utilise the crop greater and launch a value added range of Gilfresh Branded Prepared Vegetables.

2015 Construction started on an Anaerobic Digester Plant which allows us to generate green energy to power the site. This became operational in 2017.

2016 A wind turbine was installed which creates further Green Energy to help power the site.

2019 Construction commenced on a a second packhouse on the site. This would add further cold storage and packing facilities to help meet growing customer demand.

2020 Operations started in Pack House 2. Leeks, scallion, cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower and even pumpkins are packed here.

2022 Relaunch and rebrand of the Gilfresh Prepared vegetable range took place. The range includes Carrot Batons, Sliced Carrots, Sliced Leeks,  Carrot, Cauliflower, Broccoli Mix, Diced Carrot & Turnip, Shredded Cabbage, Casserole Veg, Soup Vegetables, Vegetable Medley (Carrot, Broccoli, Baby Corn, Mange Tout),  Vegetable Fajita Kit, Vegetable Spice Bag Kit, Oriental Stir-Fry and Vegetable Stir-Fry. The Gilfresh range continues to be developed and is now available from leading retailers across the island of Ireland including Aldi, ASDA, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, Tesco, Centra, Mace, SuperValu, Eurospar, Spar, Vivo and Vivo Extra.
