Scallions

We grow scallions, also know as spring onions or salad onions, locally on our farm. We also work with trusted growers to ensure this firm favourite is readily available for customers all year round.

Growing Scallions

Scallion seeds are sown directly into the soil. We usually sow our first scallions in August and let the crop grow slowly over winter. We then start sowing again in early March, covering the first few batches with plastic or fleece to help raise the soil temperature. Scallions are all harvested by hand.

How to Use Scallions

Scallions can be used instead of onion in any cooking. Scallions are usually used more like chives when a bit of green enhances a dish and also adds flavour. They are great raw and chopped in dips, spreads, salads and on top of a baked potato. Grill whole scallions lightly and serve on top of grilled steak for a tasty garnish.

In Season

Scallions are in season from May to October.
