Growing Swede
Swede seeds are sown directly into the soil and are only sown after the risk of frost has passed, usually early May. The majority of our swede is harvested mechanically using a specialised harvester. At the start of the season we hand pull to ensure that we are only harvesting the correct sized product.
How to Use Swede
Swede can be served as an accompanying vegetable or included in stews. They can also be made into soup, mashed or puréed. Mini turnips are served raw or cooked. Grate raw swede and include in salads or slice thinly and drizzle with French dressing or mayonnaise.
In Season
Swede is in season from August to March. Our storage facilities enable us to extend the local season.
