Being at the start of the food chain, the planet is central to our business. We depend directly on natural resources and understand that our operations have an environmental impact. That’s why we are focused on measuring our footprint comprehensively, so we can identify opportunities and take meaningful steps towards improving our environmental performance.
We are proud signatories to the Food Waste Reduction Roadmap and are committed to cutting food waste in line with Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, aiming for a 50% reduction by 2030. Each week, surplus food is donated to FareShare, supporting local communities and reducing waste. Additionally, we provide free vegetable hampers to staff, making use of fresh produce that might otherwise go unused. These initiatives form part of our ongoing commitment to responsible and impactful food management.
We are proud members of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), committed to farming responsibly and with care As members of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), we are committed to responsible farming that supports the environment. We focus on enhancing biodiversity by supporting four key species on our farms:
We strive to manage our environmental impact thoughtfully by focusing on energy and water use, as well as waste management. Through efficient processes and continuous efforts, we aim to make the best use of resources. Wherever possible, we prioritise reducing, reusing, and recycling materials, and work towards supporting a circular economy. Our recycling and waste management practices are designed to be responsible and effective.
In 2016, we installed a wind turbine to generate renewable energy for our site. In 2017, we constructed an Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant, which supports a circular economy by converting vegetable waste from our packing facilities into green energy. The energy produced powers our packing operations, with any surplus fed back into the local grid.
